Brion Rieff built Truth for a client in Narragansett Bay. She’s a 30′ Gaff Cutter suitable for offshore work.
Here’s Brion during Sail trials in the Eggemoggin Reach.
Brion took this shot from the cross-trees.

LOD: 30′ – 8″
LWL: 27′ – 5″
Beam: 9′ – 9″
Draft: 4′ – 11″
Displacement: 12,500 #
Ballast: 4,845#
Sail Area: 624 sq. ft.
Power: 12 hp Diesel
Impressive design! I’m a big fan of classic gaff cutters, and the fin keel/skeg rudder gives it an interesting twist. Do you have study/building plans available? Also, what is the intended build method? Can it be done in strip or sheathed strip?
Thanks and keep up the great work.
Steve,
Thanks for your interest in Truth!
Truth was built in strip/coldmolded sheathed composite construction.
I currently don’t have study plans available, but there are some articles on Truth. Robert Perry reviewed the design in Sailing, January 2000; and there was a feature article in American Yacht Review, Issue 109. September 2000.
